Sprites and stage

For a whole month you've written instructions on paper and tested them on your friends. Today the computer starts following them instead.

You'll use Scratch — a place where instructions are coloured blocks you snap together instead of typed words. Same thinking, no typing mistakes.

Everything you learned still applies. Sequence still matters. Conditions are still yes/no. Bugs are still gaps in your instructions. Only the writing has changed.

Three words unlock the whole screen:

• The stage is the white rectangle where everything happens. Your world.
• A sprite is a character or object that lives on the stage — the cat, a ball, a button. A project can have many.
• A script is a stack of blocks telling one sprite what to do.

The crucial part: each sprite carries its own scripts. Click a sprite and you see its instructions. Click a different one and you see completely different instructions. Forgetting this is why beginners write perfect code that does nothing — it was attached to the wrong sprite.
